Linen and traditional Lace work

It mirrored and reflect , reflect the  reflection of what you present at the moment . What  you present is what you represent at least for that  particular   moment. Therefor  it  creates the most  realistic illusion . Fashion photography makes you to believe that  illusion  and provoke emotions  by controlling ,  expanding and squeezing  the volume and frequency of motions of emotions .  Fashion photography Its is not just composing images , its a  combination of  all collaborators on scene and behind the scene .

costumes   are not simply  an outfits,  it has  many coding . Materials, colours , textures and  designs ect ; all these elements contain specific meanings . It  has capacity to creates  characters , enhance moods , build personalities. Also costumes represent the  social, cultural and economical status  and identitiy of the person who wear it.

portraying  fashion in photography is an exercise of of  chemistry of  fashion designer , client , model and the  photographer .  The choice and the influence of the people around the process of fashion industry  can lead fashion photography  through many different paths.  It could  be a portrayal in an  elegant , classic , sexy or erotic ,  artistic creative and imaginative work by the end according to the choice.   However  combination of fashion and photography built an icons , generate ideas of ideals in society , influence the cultures .

Vogue article quote Barthes  on fashion photography //the French philosopher, in his book “Fashion System” has proposed to look at the world as a background, when referred to fashion photography. This background can be converted into a certain semantic statement. Setting sense of fashion keeps a delicate balance between seriousness and a certain quirkiness.

According to Barthes, fashion photography has three general trends. First – this is the literal representation as photos in the catalog, depicting clothing. The second is associated with romanticized demonstration, where fashion refers to a sort of history where the real life becomes art. The third trend – is a fashion to the point of absurdity, where the model is shown in an irregular situation or an unrealistic comparison, where there is no romance, no reason, and the total absurdity reigns. Bart leans to the description of fashion photography as a certain exorcism in which everyone wants to achieve an “outrageous” photograph.//

Long shadows in the evening sun and the sounds of the palm tree leaves touching each others in the dry wind ….except me and my shadow no one was there ….

Self and ruined house in Northern province – Jaffna. How we became strangers to each other? 30 years of war disrupted the lives of the people in North and South. There are many untold stories that I am still searching through.  When the North transformed into a battleground, people left everything they possessed including land and houses to save their life. They lost their dwellings, their kids and relatives. They were living in refugee camps with numerous issues. …

‘Mangal’ is the name of this house. Name was embossed on the top of the main door. Who’s name it could be? As my friend said one of her aunt’s house was named and dedicated to one of her cousin sister. Wealthiest people in the Northern province-built houses in order to give as a dowry (a customary wedding gift) for women. They are still keeping these houses and properties as souvenirs even though they do not come and settled there.

The largest two storied doubled wall traditional designer house with a beautiful courtyard that I found in Jaffna. Even though the owners did not resettle, they use to visit the places time to time and clean the place. Some of these houses have care takers. Some houses have built fences and gates after the lands were released. Some of the lands are used for agricultural activities while the rest of the lands were completely abandoned.  Those who don’t owned lands are still living in temporary shelters in Jaffna.   Mainly they are wedge labors and is considered as people of lowest cast.

A ruined house in Jaffna.  Tellippalai was announced as high security zone in 1992. People were asked to move out of the houses within 24 hours. During the war, most of these houses were occupied by the military for various purposes. The owners do not know exactly for what purpose their houses were occupied. Similarly, the houses in Jaffna town were occupied by the LTTE for sometimes. Properties occupied by military started to release those lands to civilians from 2010. There are some lands yet to be released. People are still struggling to get their lands back.

An  abandoned house in   Jaffna.  There’s no one to looking through the window, but Boganvila is still blooming. Who lived there? Where did they go? What happened to them? Where are they now?  There are many untold stories. Some elderly members have passed away. Some of them have settled elsewhere with rest of the family members. They are still traumatized due to the war.  Some are still waiting for their disappeared family members remembering them.
